GSS GLOBAL AGENDA 2020

// WHAT IS THE GSS PROGRAM ABOUT?

With the current global crisis and urban growth rates, we are facing emerging challenges to reshape our ecosystems, in order to improve resilience and introduce advanced solutions while still respecting our natural resources.  The GSS Global Agenda focuses on the impact of novel technologies in addressing these contemporary challenges within our built environment and living habitats.

How can new technologies enhance the way we design and inhabit our environments?
How will these new habitats perform? What resources will they produce?

GSS20 will explore the advancements of innovative technologies of design, fabrication, and planning, redefining our ecosystems, citizens environments and natural habitats. Specifically, the GSS global agenda will be developed through three main approaches:

  • material computation
  • advanced construction
  • performative urban habitats

Each topic will be tackled locally by the different Nodes of the program network thereby establishing an interconnected global network of customised research enhanced through knowledge exchange.

As part of the GSS20 program, students will define new strategies for the application of data-driven design solutions, introducing data analytics, advanced construction protocols, or material computation as essential means for the change. In this new paradigm of digital and physical frontiers, students will explore and experiment with the combination of software and hardware technologies towards real-time data capture, energy generation, storage, and reuse, material adaptability, public space management, and citizen interaction.

GSS STRUCTURE

// HOW DOES THE GSS PROGRAM WORK?

IAAC Global Summer School (GSS) is a full-time two week summer workshop happening every July, which provides both practical and theoretical knowledge to participants.
The program is led by expert instructors, combined with lectures held by renowned professionals and academics to be treated during the program of each node and broadcasted simultaneously  worldwide for all the different nodes-cities, globally connected. The GSS participants will work on a 2 week local program referred to the GSS GLOBAL AGENDA in the chosen node-city.

During the workshop, the GSS participants will attend specific classes to then develop and prototype a final project.
The GSS students will have the opportunity to present their node’s outcomes globally connected with a selected IAAC jury and the other GSS nodes, to finally receive a GSS diploma.

// WHO CAN PARTICIPATE TO THE GSS PROGRAM?

Are you a student or professional with a creative mind interested in the fields of architecture, urban planning, digital fabrication, design and prototyping?
By becoming one of the GSS participants, you will join a unique global agenda having an international laboratory at your disposal to test:
–new design hypothesis
–innovative architecture and design proposals
–digital use of computational design softwares
–fabrication of a final prototype (its scale could vary from each node)

GSS FACULTY TEAM

GLOBAL TEAM

IAAC GSS NETWORK

IAAC has an active Alumni community distributed around the world, allowing a decentralized expansion of IAAC expertise and knowledge.

Thanks to the Alumni collaborations, IAAC empowers the bonds with the community members placing them in strategic countries to allow the GSS program global extension in different Nodes-cities around the world, such us: Barcelona, New York City, Hong Kong, Pune, Manila, Tehran, Melbourne, Beirut, Budapest, Shanghai, Quito and more.

Counting on this network, the GSS participants can therefore choose the node to which apply to between the ones present in the IAAC GSS nodes network.
Due to Covid-19 outbreak and travel restrictions, new information on how to APPLY will be available soon!

IAAC Global Summer School 2020 dates are from the 29th June to the 11th July 2020. More information on dates variations and applications deadline are coming soon!

Applications will be accepted until the maximum number of students is reached and considered valid once all required documents mentioned in the online application form of each node, including the receipt of the fee payment, have been submitted.
